Cesare Negri was an italian composer and dance-master who lived in the second half of the 16 century. He served at several courts in Italy and elsewhere in Europe. He composed music for various ensembles, ballets and also music for official processions, some of witch seems to have been quite spectacular in size.
This piece is more modest in size but very charming. The form of this version is slightly different from the original, and while the original lute tablature is usually transcribed to D major it is here played in C.
